Barn Fire

By Firefighter Spencer Stevenson
September 22, 2007

Just after 2PM the assignment was dispatched for a barn fire on Penns Hill Road. Engine 143 was out the door in seconds.

F/F Stevenson was the first to arrive in his POV and notified Charles County that it was hay bales only and appeared to be no extension to the barn. Engine 143 arrived on the scene and dropped a line at the "Y" in the driveway and established the command. Command confirmed they had 7-8 bales of hay on fire with no extension to the barn and held E-143, E-101, Tanker 10 and Tanker 1. The fire was brought under control quickly using a total of 3300 gallons of water between 14 and the units from 10.

Engine 143 returned to quarters just before 5PM.

Thanks to EMS Chief 14A for refreshments and hot dogs and Engine 62 for filling in at Newburg and covering the pile-up on the Harry Nice Bridge.

CREW:
E-143 - Cliff Butler (OIC/Command), Chris Young (DR), Ryan Murphy (Lineman) and Stephan Johnson
A-149 - Katie Murphy (OIC) and Andrew Spalding (DR)
