By Assistant EMS Chief Andrew Spalding
February 27, 2009

On Friday Feb. 27th, just before Bingo, Co. 14 was alerted by Charles County Communications for a subject in the water just North of the Nice Bridge in the Potomac River. Engine 141, PA-148, A-149, EMS Chief 14-A and Chief 14-B responded. Chief 14-B arrived on scene and had the Potomac River Command. All landbased units responding staged at Aqualand, and Command had water based units check the River (including the Trooper's). Communications had report of a subject in a wet suit in the middle of a channel. Chief 14-B had A-149 and EMS Duty 16-A respond to the VA side, due to receiving reports of the subject possibly being there (From Bridge Police thru a witness). Units went across the bridge, and the subject was soon located at the end of Roseland Park Road in Dahlgren, VA. Pt. was hypothermic, and was treated by A-149 and EMS Duty 16-A (With the Warm O2 system), and the patient refused transport after being warmed. The patient signed a refusal and units returned to service authority of Chief 14-B. Units operated on scene for approx. 1 1/2 hours.

Units: Chief 14-B, Eng. 141, A-149, PA-148 and EMS Chief 14-A
