Just after 7AM this morning Engines 141 and 144 were dispatched to 12200 Block of Nyce Manor Place for a brush fire. Units from Newburg arrived on the scene and requested forestry, additional tanker and brush truck. Once Lt. Butler (Command) did a scene size-up, he then requested a 2nd and 3rd alarm.

Forestry arrived on the scene and at that time a general alarm was requested for manpower and two additional tankers. The general alarm brought a piece of apparatus from every station in Charles County. Once these units arrived and no progress was being made, command requested an additional general alarm. This re-alerted all stations in Charles County, as well as St. Mary's, Calvert and King George Virginia. A special alarm for water supply 5 (St. Mary's), Engine 82 (Marbury "2000 gpm") and Engine 44 (Nanjemoy - "wet system").

A total of 82 personnel and 53 units were operating on the scene, the fire consumed only 5 acres, however was VERY deep seated. Approximately 1 million gallons of water were dumped on this stubborn fire before bringing it under control. Units from forestry remained on the scene overnight.
