Back to Back First Due Chimney Fires

At 19:54 hours on January 15, 2012, Station 14 was alerted for a Chimney fire on Old Sycamore Road. Engine 143 responded with 5, Rescue Engine 141 with 2 and Command 14 with Chief 14(G. Hayden). Chief 14 arrived on scene to report heavy smoke conditions on side's A & B. Further investigation revealed a chimney fire with extension to the dwelling. During this incident, Communications advised Chief 14 that there was another chimney fire in the first due on Waverly Point Road. Communications requested St. Mary's Engine 21 and Rescue Engine 141 be released to respond. All units cleared 21:32


Engine 61 arrived on scene side A and reported nothing showing. Sgt. 14 (M. Ivie) arrived on scene onboard RE-141 and established the Waverly Point Command until the arrival of Chief 14-A (G. Edelen). Engine 61's crew checked the chimney while RE-141's crew checked the fireplace. Units determined that the flue was clogged with no extension to the dwelling. All units cleared @ 21:48
