Station 14 Runs Back to Back Gas Leaks in Co.6's First Due

By Assistant Fire Chief CLIFTON BUTLER
January 4, 2010

At 1046hrs, Engine Co.14 was alerted to 14485 Forest Road for the Gas Leak inside a single family residence. Engine 143 and Chief 14B responded with 5 volunteers. Engine 143 arrived on the scene just ahead of Engine 61 to find a strong odor of fuel oil throughout the entire house. No other reading were showing on the meter. Chief 6B had Command, Chief 14B had Operations.

After further Investigation the crews found a fuel leak under the house. At that time Command requested the Haz-Mat Team to respond. At 1105hrs, Communications called Command and asked if we could free up some units for another gas leak in a commercial building on Cobb Island. Command turned the scene over to Chief 14B and released the other units. Engine 61, 62, Tanker 6 and Chief 6B responded back to the Island, while Engine 141 responded from quarters. With both incidents being almost the same outcome, the Haz-Mat Team was broken up into two teams. MDE was called out to assist the Haz-Mat teams.

Mutual Aid: E61,E62,E11,TANKERS 6,10, SQUAD10, AMB69 EMS6A, HAZMAT16, 28, ST MARYS HAZMAT TEAM and TRUCK 28
