December 8, 2013

To all concerned, please see the press release from our department regarding the accident involving our Rescue Engine 141. The website will not let me post the MS Word doc, so I have copied it over from the document. Should you have any questions, please contact either Fire Chief George Edelen or myself via the numbers listed on the release. Thank you to all for the tremendous amount of support, prayers and well wishes extended to our department.

See Below:

DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE

On Sunday December 8th, 2013 Rescue Engine 141 was responding out of county to assist with a motor vehicle collision. When the unit turned onto Budds Creek Road from Crain Highway they encountered a sheet of ice, sending the engine out of control. After attempting to bring the engine back under control, it left the roadway and went through a guardrail, then overturned onto its roof down an embankment.

At the time of the collision, 5 members were on board. All 5 members were able to get out on their own power and were all transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. All members were treated, released and are home now and doing well.

On behalf of the Officers and members of the department, I would like to personally thank all of the area departments and personnel who responded to the scene to help in our time of need. Thank you to La Plata VFD, Westlake VFD, Marbury VFD, and Waldorf EMS 3 for filling our station following this unfortunate event. Also, special thanks goes out to La Plata VFD Chief 1 Matt Gilroy, for arriving on the scene and running command of the incident so that our Fire Chief could tend to the members involved in the accident. Thanks to several other departments including Hughesville VFD, Bel Alton VFD and Cobb Island VFD who also offered their services with retrieving equipment from the scene and returning it to our station. We offer an endless amount of gratitude to everyone for the tremendous amount of prayers, will wishes and support extended to our department!

Should you have any questions regarding this incident, we ask that you please call the Fire Chief, George Edelen, at 240.299.9967 or me at 301.751.6154.
